Sunday Coffee-early edition

**This is an “early edition” because we pushed our clocks back one extra hour since daylight savings ends. So when you have small children I guess they don’t get the memo. Grayson was up at 515am but in his defense it REALLY should have been 615…..and he is already down for a nap. Wish I could go back to bed. Any advice on getting kids use to the time change? Or do we just wait it out for a few days?

**Researching appliances is no fun. We are in the market for a new washer and dryer. Any opinions?

**I love October but I really LOVE November. We celebrate our anniversary, Thanksgiving is coming soon, which means Christmas is close!

**I love the holidays, and I can’t wait to celebrate them this year with Grayson. I have always been a big believer in traditions, and we will incorporate some that we had growing up and create some new ones.

**One tradition involves Santa. Curt grew up with Santa not wrapping his presents and I grew up with Santa wrapping mine……so it has been up for debate on whether or not Santa will wrap Grayson’s…..I know, I know… jealous of the conversations we are having. 🙂 What did Santa do for your presents?

I hope you all have a great first week of November!

And just for smiles, enjoy these picture of Grayson painting his first pumpkin. 🙂 A new tradition I think we will keep.

Sunday Coffee

Sorry this is a little late….I actually did start it during my morning coffee but someone didn’t want to take long naps today. 🙂 Such is life.

**Speaking of naps, don’t you just wish you could tell kids to enjoy it and take their naps now because once they start school, work etc. they won’t have the luxury of taking naps during the day.

**This week was rough, let’s just say I was happy to see the weekend roll around.

**Grayson started pulling himself up! EEK! The kid can’t crawl or scoot around but can pull himself up on things?? He is going to keep us on our toes!

**Green Beans-1 Peas- 1, Grayson-0 So far he isn’t digging the veggies…but seems to like applesauce ok.

** Today I’m making SQUASH for Grayson. All different types, butternut, acorn etc. Wish me luck.

**Miley still seems to be the talk….her new Wrecking Ball video (gross), her crying during a concert during the song (silly), her break-up. Ugh, anyone else over the Miley talk???

Hope you enjoy your day!!!

Sunday Coffee

I thought I would try a new series similar, well actually exactly like my “Monday Musings” posts. Obviously “Sunday Coffee” doesn’t roll of the tongue like “Monday Musings”….but I think I will be better about posting on Sundays. And I’m drinking coffee as I post so thought it made sense. This is the time I like to catch up on blogs, articles, etc. so this is a series about my random thoughts mostly. Some days I might just recap the weekend, but today you get random thoughts. Lucky you. 🙂

*I don’t get music videos. They never make sense with the lyrics, it drives me crazy. Almost every Sunday Curt and I watch VH1 countdown while drinking coffee when Gray is down for his early morning nap at 7am. I think I tell him the same thing every week….this doesn’t make sense with the words! What’s up with that?

*I haven’t yet commented on the whole Miley/Thicke fiasco. Here I go. Miley is old enough to know and understand what she is doing. I don’t feel sorry for her, I don’t think she was forced to do any of that, I think she was asked and she said yes. I think she is silly, a terrible musician (can’t even really call her that), and I have absolutely no respect for her. Robin Thick is in the same boat for me, I feel like he didn’t get near as much publicity as her….he is also disgusting, his song is degrading to women and he knew exactly what he was doing. It makes me sad to think of my children growing up in such a sexualized world. All I can do is teach my children how to be respectful, caring people and hope they make the right decisions. For all you little girls out there that saw that fiasco, or anything she does or hear any songs that are degrading to women, please know not everyone is like that. Have respect for yourself and your body, find someone you love that treats you right, surround yourself with good, kind people. For all you boys, respect women,be chivalrous, open the door, respect her parents, treat her well, don’t waste time one a girl that has no self respect for herself or her body.
*Phew, that got long! Speaking of musicians. I like how Justin Timberlake wears his wedding ring in music videos.
*This weekend we got family photos taken. As you know Grayson turned 6 months last week so I I wanted to get the majority of the photos do this 6 month. I hope there is at least one good one of all three of us…I’m a little skeptical as it was so hot out. I was a sweaty mess, I wanted Fall pictures so we were dressed for Fall….little did I know it would be so freaking hot!  Our photographer was great so I’m sure she can do something with the mess I was…I will share them with you as soon as I get them!
*Speaking of Fall, it’s my favorite season. I bought a pumpkin spice candle at Target, today my plan is to light my Fall candle and set out my Fall decor in my air conditioned house. 🙂 90 plus degrees here today people.
*Grayson will be starting food this week! I’m going to go buy organic avocado, carrots and peas to start out with I think. I can’t wait to see him in this new stage! I also read online that you can introduce a sippy cup at this age…what?! That just seems too early, my little guy is just learning to hold his bottle and tip it when he wants more….I think I’ll wait on the sippy cup.

*I feel like I’m still adjusting to Grayson going to daycare. Everyone keeps saying it will get easier, I think they are lying. It doesn’t and isn’t getting easier it’s just getting “normal” I do it because I have to, do you know what I mean working mommas out there?

*Today I’m also planning on sterilizing and cleaning all my breast pump supplies and putting them away until next baby. I learned so much and I have so many things I’ll be doing differently with the next little Tyke (no announcements here people) but until then….I’ll store the pump away.  I have mixed feelings about being done that I’ll share in another post.

Wow, based on this post I have a lot to do today and our little guy is waking up. So enjoy your Sunday folks and I’ll see you soon!

And for smiles, enjoy this picture when Gray was just born!! I can’t believe he is 17 pounds now!!! I can’t believe he was that little just 6 months ago!

So I find that a lot of these “truths” ring true for me. For instance:

#3: I would give anything to be able to nap every day from 1-3 or heck even 1-2pm.

#4: So many people read into emails TOO much, me included, so let’s make a sarcastic font….sounds good to me.

#25: I probably do this way more than I should…I think I’ll just start interrupting and ask the person to start completely over and I will try and pay attention and listen this time.

#30: If you went to UNI you know what I’m talking about and you agree with me. 😉

Do any of these ring true for you?

New Year, New You!

Do you make a New Years Resolution? I’ve never been big on making one or really sticking to one. You know the usuals…eat right, lose weight etc. Those goals I seem to make every month! 🙂 But this year I really want to try to focus on TWO New Years Resolutions, that’s right now just one, but TWO!

New Years Resolution 1:

Have you heard of Pinterest? Well if not, you should definitely check it out! Think of Pinterest as a virtual pin board where you can pin anything and everything you find on the web. Maybe it’s a recipe, DIY project, or kiddie outfit, you can “pin” it and then go back and easily find the website from where it originates.  It’s pretty cool.  Well, there are  A LOT of DIY projects on Pinterest that my fellow pinners have been pinning. So my first New Years Resolution  is to make a DIY project I find on Pinterest at least once a month. It’s a lofty goal but I think I can do it! I’ll try to post my DIY projects as I do them to share with you all. 🙂

My first DIY project that I want to complete is below.

With this you can take a dry erase marker and we can write little love notes to each other, cheesy to some but thoughtful and romantic for us. 🙂

New Years Resolution 2:

You remember my blog about the Dirty Dozen? Well, I really, REALLY want to work on buying our meat from a place like this.  A place where I can buy local, organic, hormone and pesticide free meat. We eat  A LOT of meat, and it gets expensive buying organic and hormone free at HyVee so this would be straight from the source, taking out the middle man so to speak.  In order to do this, we really need to get a deep freeze.  So this is almost like a 2 in 1 Resolution, to save enough to get a decent deep freeze and to start buying ALL of our meat from a place like Wallace Farms.

Cows roaming and feeding on open grassland, as nature intended.

There ya have it, those our my New Years Resolutions, what do you plan to do in 2012?

Happy New Year!!

Here is our New Year's Eve kiss! Happy 2012!
